Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University men's and women's basketball now know the first test of the SIAC tournament beginning on Monday, Feb. 27 at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
Men's basketball will play the first game of the tournament as the No. 4 seed in the West division with a 12:15 pm CT tipoff against the No. 5 seed out of the East Division, Fort Valley State University (9-17, 6-10).
Earlier in the season on Dec. 31, the Thorobreds defeated the Wildcats 118-95 at the Exum Center in the only head-to-head matchup of the regular season. Senior guard
Malcolm Smith led all scorers with 34 points, hitting 7-of-10 from beyond the three-point line, and a combined 11-of-19 from the field. Junior guard
Dorian Jordan finished the day with 28 points and 15 assists.
Heading into the tournament, KSU picked up momentum by snapping a three-game skid with an 89-84 road win at Cedarville University on Thursday.
Women's basketball also enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed in the West division as they will play immediately after the men's game at 2:30 pm CT against No. 5 seeded Albany State University (6-19, 6-10) out of the East division.

The Thorobrettes took down the Lady Rams back on Dec. 29 in a 63-61 home victory. Senior forward
Aliyah Gipson picked up a double-double in the victory scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while hitting a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.
Marching into the tournament is a familiar feel for the women's program as they have played in the SIAC championship game the last two seasons, winning in 2015 and coming up short in 2016. Head coach
