Frankfort, Ky. - Kentucky State University, men's basketball, dropped an 89-80 affair to Lemoyne-Owen College, Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.
Â
Junior guard
Dorian Jordan led all scorers with a career-high 35 points and dished six assists for the home team. Senior forward
Julius Barton recorded his seventh double-double of the season, netting 15 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds for the Thorobreds (9-15, 7-9 SIAC).
Â
KSU struggled on the boards against the Magicians, being outrebounded 33-15 by the visitors in the first stanza. The Thorobreds' stifling defense kept the first frame within reach as they forced LOC to commit seven turnovers to trail by only two points at halftime, 38-36.
Â
"The offense wasn't the problem tonight," said head coach
Jamaal Jackson. "We scored 80 points. The problem was not getting stops and not crashing the glass."
Â
KSU attacked the boards in the second half, outrebounding LOC 18-17. Despite the improvement on the glass, the Magicians' offensive production in the second half, which saw the visitors shoot 54 percent from the floor, was enough to hand KSU the loss.
Â
KSU will square off against SIAC foe Spring Hill College in its final regular season home game on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Seniors
Malcolm Smith,
Julius Barton, and
Michael Cross will be honored before the game. Â
