Ray Croon notched his second double-double in as many games with a team-high 25 points and 10 assists as Kentucky State University men's basketball fell to the University of Indianapolis 101-87 on Wednesday night at Nicoson Hall.
The Thorobreds (0-2) have dropped back-to-back games to begin the 2017-18 season while accounting for over 75 points in each contest. The Greyhounds (2-1) have won two consecutive games after losing their season opener to Northwood University on Nov. 10.
"We're improving as a team, and that's all you can ask for at this point in the season," said head coach
Jamaal Jackson. "We had a lot of fixable mistakes. I'm not disappointed in my team at all. We've got to get it together quickly to go completely at EKU, then come back home for our home opener Saturday."
KSU jumped out early on the home squad, beginning the night on a 16-4 run. UIndy answered quickly after with a 21-4 run to take a 25-20 lead at the midway point of the first half. The green and gold stayed within striking distance, heading into the half down 48-41.
Croon continued his hot play into the second half, bringing KSU within two at 57-55 at 14:41 with six points during a 16-7 run. A few moments later, the Greyhounds pulled away leading 65-60 to 81-66, closing out KSU for the eventual final of 101-87.
Joining Croon as a part of the double-double crew was junior center,
David Jelks. The Conyers, Georgia native picked up only his second career double-double with 16 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

Kevin Hayes bounced back from his six-point debut against Salem International University for 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
KSU will have a quick turnaround with an exhibition on the road at NCAA Division I, Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky University on Thursday night at Alumni Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 7 pm ET.
