Louisville, Ky.—Kentucky State University men's and women's cross country turned in an impressive day as several student-athletes recorded personal best, shaving off multiple minutes at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
Sophomore Camron Galloway led the pack for the Thorobreds in the Men's 8K Silver competition, recording a time of 28:42.61 placing him at the 33rd position overall.
As a unit, the men's squad saw various times get cut shorter and shorter. Senior
Jacobi Reed, junior Silas Green, sophomore
Travon Stephenson, sophomore
Rodman Allen, and freshman Mark Johanneman all saw minutes and seconds shaved off their times from two weeks ago at the Berea College Mike and Mary Kay Invitational. It was Reed leading the way with the most improved time as he crossed the finish line at 30:23.38, slicing more than five minutes off his time from two weeks ago.
Senior Briana Patterson led the Thorobrettes for the second consecutive event with a finishing time of 24:06. 73 for a 25th overall finish in the women's 5K Silver competition. But, it was junior
Daphene Brown stealing the day with one of her best performance of her career. The Louisville, Kentucky native finished right behind Patterson in the 26th position with a time of 24:28.72, improving her time from a week ago by nearly a minute.
"Daphene (Brown) showed us something today," said head coach
Fatimah Shabazz. "She's a senior in the classroom, technically a junior as a collegiate athlete, and a freshman when it comes to cross country. But she went out there, competed and had the second-best time on the team. I couldn't be prouder of her."
Next up, KSU will compete in the Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro, Kentucky on Oct. 7.
