Box Score
Orangeburg, S.C.—Kentucky State University men's basketball dropped a 97-86 contest to Claflin University on Thursday night in Tullis Arena.
The Thorobreds (2-4, 1-1) fell victim to a 17-4 run by the Panthers in the second half, dropping their first SIAC matchup of the season. CU (3-3, 1-1) notched its third victory in four games, as Ryan McNeill-Moses scored a game-high 35 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
"We practice at a high intensity, with minimal rest, so we're not going to use fatigue as an excuse," said head coach
Jamaal Jackson. "We just couldn't get stops tonight."
Junior forward
Reggie Breeden was the top scoring threat for the visiting squad, accounting for 22 points and four rebounds. Junior guard
Dorian Jordan followed up with 18 points, while senior forward
Julius Barton totaled 16 points, five rebounds, and five blocks.
CU outscored KSU 42-20 from the bench, a place where coach Jackson looks to improve.
"Right now our bench isn't doing much for us'" said Jackson. "I would like to give guys like Reggie (Breeden) and Dorian (Jordan) some rest. I need guys who go in and play aggressively. Tonight was the first time we used Toussaint Shaak (Rose), he went for rebounds and just played hard. Guys like him and Felix (Wilson) may start seeing some more minutes off the bench."
KSU will have a break after two games in as many days and will wrap up the three-game road swing with Benedict College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
