Frankfort, Ky.— Kentucky State University football will host Benedict College in the final regular season game of 2016 at Alumni Stadium on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Â
The Thorobreds (4-5, 4-2) will honor fourteen seniors before kickoff. Festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET as each player will be thanked for their accomplishments on the gridiron.
Â
"Saturday is their day," said head coach
John L. Smith. "We want to send all those guys out the right way, with a win. It'll be the last time they walk out onto that field, and it's our job to make sure they leave as winners."
Â
Leading the senior class into the matchup with Benedict College will be senior linebacker,
Travon Spencer. The Louisville native ranks number two in the conference with 92 tackles, only trailing David Smith of Morehouse College by one tackle. If Spencer can eclipse Smith and become the leading tackler of the SIAC, he'll be the first ever Thorobred to lead the SIAC in tackles for a season. KSU has been a member of the SIAC since 1997.
Â
Along with the potential of leading the conference in tackles, if Spencer can pick up eight tackles against the Tigers, he'll become the first KSU student-athlete to record 100 tackles or more in a season as a NCAA DII institution.
Joining Spencer on senior day will be
Reginal Harris,
Moronkie Tapper,Â
Alex Springs,
Tryston Ford,
Jakar Turner,
Raymond Malone,
Darmontre Warr, Vince Edwards, Quin'yone McLaurin,
Michael Moaga, tight end
Charles Johnson,Â
Bill Rose, and
Wesley Sutherland.
Â
The game will be featured on the Thorobred Sports Network for fans who can't make it to the game. Coverage will begin at 1:15 p.m. ET.
