Rizzi Breaks KSU Women's Basketball Shooting Record in 108-44 Victory.

Box Score

Frankfort, Ky.—Junior guard Brittani Rizzi erupted for 41 points as the Kentucky State University women's basketball team routed Bluefield State College 108-44 at the Exum Center on Saturday afternoon.

Rizzi went 13-21 from beyond the three-point line, breaking the KSU women's basketball record for made threes in one game and now ranks No. 2 all-time in NCAA Division II. Ashley Reed from Fairmont State holds the record with 16 made threes in one game. Rizzi is tied with Kayla Akers from West Liberty.

"She gives us a lot of life," said head coach Terrance Slater. "I tell her she can be an excellent player here and set her mark at KSU. Our team looks for her, and she's a tremendous energy boost for us."

With her performance, Rizzi is shooting better than 55 percent from three-point territory in her first four career games as a Thorobrette.

"Usually it builds the confidence when you hit the first shot," said Rizzi. "But after I hit the first four, I was feeling pretty good, and my teammates were doing a great job at finding me during the game."

The Thorobrettes (3-1) dominated from the opening whistle, outscoring the Big Blues 24-6 in the opening quarter, and rode the momentum to a 45-20 halftime lead. The KSU wouldn't dip below 25 in the final two-quarters.

Along with Rizzi's career-high 41 points, she accounted for four assists. Three other players reached double-digit scoring. Sophomore center Brooke Wallace notched 14 points and nine rebounds, while senior forward Logan Powell scored 12 points and pulled down nine boards. Joining them was junior guard Zauria Kilgo adding 11 points and five rebounds.

Junior guard Brooklyn Sharpey continued to pad her stat, finishing with a career-high 12 assists, eight points, seven rebounds, and seven steals.

The 100-point performance for KSU was the first for the program since a Jan. 26, 2015 contest against Central State University. The Thorobrettes scored 102 in the victory.

Next up for the Thorobrettes will be a home contest against Bellarmine University on Nov. 23, tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. ET at the Exum Center.
