Wiggins and Horton Named To 2015 All-SIAC Team



ATLANTA - The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released in 2015 Women's Basketball All-SIAC Team and superlatives prior to the upcoming SIAC Championship Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

Kentucky State senior center Shaquanda Wiggins and junior guard Shaia Horton were both named to this season's All-SIAC team. Wiggins, who leads the nation in field goal percentage, connecting on 65 percent of her attempts, is averaging 12 points, 8.3 rebounds and one block per game for the Thorobrettes. Horton, second in the SIAC with 50 3-pointers made, is averaging 12.2 points per game this season.

The Thorobrettes (22-4, 16-2 SIAC) finished the regular season with a 13-game winning streak and head into next week's SIAC Championship Tournament as the top-seed from the West Division.

Head Coach Serena King-Coleman earns Coach of the Year honors after guiding KSU to its first 20-win season since 1996-97. King-Coleman, in the midst of her fifth season at the helm of the program, is 75-60 in her time at Kentucky State. The Thorobrettes led the SIAC in scoring (69.5 ppg), margin of victory (8.9), field goal percentage (.449) and assists (15.2 apg).

Senior forward Brieona Warner was recognized on the honorable mention list. Warner was limited to just 14 games this season but has been a major factor for KSU in their current winning streak. A member of the 2014 All-SIAC team, Warner is averaging 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 steals per game this season.

Miles College senior guard Porshia Blue captured three individual awards.

Blue collected SIAC Player, Defensive and Newcomer of the Year awards with Chloe Roberts of Lane College voted Freshman of the Year.

Blue led the SIAC in scoring averaging 19.7 points per game which included leading MC (7-18, 4-14) in scoring in 21 of 25 games on the season. Her prowess as a scorer led MC in the category in 14 straight games.

She eclipsed the 20-point plateau on 11 occasions scoring 30 or more in two games, including a season-high 31 points in a loss to Kentucky State on February 14. Blue also leads the Lady Golden Bears in rebounds (7.7 per game) and field goals (161).

Roberts finished the season ranked second in the SIAC in scoring with 18.2 points per game in addition to ranking among the league's top free-throw shooter at 83 percent. She opened the season leading the Lady Dragons in eight consecutive games while spearheading the scoring efforts in 17 contests.

Roberts collected nine games in which she scored 20 or more points including a season high 29 against in a 63-62 upset over LeMoyne-Owen on February 7.

Blue and Roberts join Artisha Holston (Albany State), Shaquanda Wiggins (Kentucky State), Uniqua Mitchell (Claflin), Latrice Sears (LeMoyne-Owen), Brittnee Hazel (Fort Valley State), Angel Mitchell (Stillman), Shaia Horton (Kentucky State), and Kristine Lesane
(Benedict) on this year's all-conference team.

Landing honorable mention included: Britenique Harrison (Benedict), Brieona Warner (Kentucky State), Carmenonique Dawson (Fort Valley State), Shakiema Ravenell (Claflin) and Mykala Jones (Clark Atlanta).
