Thorobrettes Pull Away From Stillman, 83-67, to Earn 13th Straight Victory

Forward Logan Powell scored a season-high 20 points to help lead the Kentucky State University women's basketball team to their 13th straight victory with a win over the visiting Stillman College Lady Tigers, 83-67, on Tuesday evening at the Exum Center.
 
The Thorobrettes (22-3, 16-2 SIAC) wrap up their regular season with the SIAC West Division Regular Season title and tremendous momentum heading into the SIAC Championship Tournament as the top-seed out of the West Division. Stillman (10-16, 9-9 SIAC) finishes the season .500 in conference play and heads into the tournament as the four-seed out of the West Division.
 
Kentucky State got a pair of layup's from senior forward Brieona Warner in the opening minutes and never looked back. The Thorobrettes led from the opening tip to the final horn. Already leading by six points with 7:11 left in the first half, Shaia Horton nailed a three-pointer to spark an 11-0 run that put KSU ahead by 17, 36-19, with just over five minutes left in the half. They never let their lead drop below nine points for the rest of the contest.
 
The Thorobrettes shot a scorching 69 percent (18-of-26) from the floor in the opening half and followed it up with a 57 percent (17-of-30) shooting performance in the second to finish the game with a season-best 63 percent (35-of-56) field goal percentage as a team.
 
Powell paced Kentucky State with her 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor. On a night in which the Thorobrettes celebrated their outgoing seniors, a trio of upperclassmen scored in double figures to help KSU continue its winning streak. All-SIAC forward Shayla Moore finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Fellow All-SIAC forward Warner added 12 points and five assists. Starting center Shaquanda Wiggins, limited to just 13 minutes because of foul trouble still managed to finish in double figures with 11 points.
 
Stillman was led by Earnicia Washington who finished with 20 points to go along with seven boards. Washington was the only Lady Tiger to score in double digits.
 
The Thorobrettes now set their sights on the SIAC Championship Tournament being held in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Crossplex on March 2-7.
