ALBANY, Ga. – The Kentucky State University women's basketball team shot a season-high 46 percent from the floor as a team to begin their SIAC schedule with a 61-52 victory against the Albany State Lady Rams on Saturday afternoon at the ASU HPER Gymnasium.

Albany State (1-7, 0-1 SIAC) jumped out to a 19-10 lead midway through the first half but Kentucky State (5-2, 1-0 SIAC) used a 10-3 run to cut the Lady Rams lead to just two before finishing the half strong and taking a 32-27 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, ASU cut the Thorobrettes lead to just two, 40-38, when forward Artisha Holston hit a jumper with just over 14 minutes left. KSU responded with a 16-3 run to build a 15-point advantage that they never looked back from on their way to the conference victory.

Shaquanda Wiggins finished with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Thorobrettes. Starting point guard
Taylor Sanders added 12 points and six assists.
Logan Powell and
Teeuntra Moore contributed with nine points each.

Holston finished with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for the Lady Rams. Starting guard Keidra Green led ASU with 17 points.

Kentucky State continues its early SIAC schedule with a road game against the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats (3-9, 1-0 SIAC) on Monday, Jan. 5, at 5:30 p.m.
