COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers picked up a 66-57 conference victory over the visiting Kentucky State University Thorobrettes on Thursday evening in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
With the loss, Kentucky State fell to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in SIAC play. SIAC East Division leading Benedict won its third straight game and improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC.
Benedict held a 46-39 lead with 11:44 left in the game when the Thorobrettes went on an 8-1 run, capped by a layup by
Shaquanda Wiggins with 6:24 on the clock, to tie the game at 47-47. The Lady Tigers then went on a 12-0 run to take control of the game on their way to the victory.
Each team's success or lack-thereof from the free-throw line was a big factor in the game. As a team, Benedict went 25-of-34 from the charity stripe while Kentucky State hit just 11-of-22 attempts on Thursday.

Wiggins and
Shayla Moore led Kentucky State with 17 points each. Moore also had four assists, a pair of steals and a block. Wiggins added 10 rebounds to pick up her fifth double-double of the season.
Shaia Horton finished with 14 points.
Kristine Lesane scored a season-high 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds to help lead the Benedict. Dorothy Brown went 3-of-5 from 3-point range to finish with 13 points. Britenique Harrison added 12 points.
The Thorobrettes head back home for a three-game home stand starting on Thursday, Jan. 22, when Kentucky State hosts SIAC newcomer Spring Hill at 5:30 p.m.
