FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes led from the opening tip to the final horn in an 80-54 win over the visiting Paine College Lady Lions on Monday evening at the Exum Center.
 
Kentucky State (8-3, 4-1 SIAC) jumped all over Paine (3-10, 1-4 SIAC) in the first half, heading into the locker room with a 47-20 lead. A 3-pointer from Shayla Moore with 13:45 on the clock sparked a 21-3 Thorobrettes run that pushed their lead to 26 with just under eight minutes remaining in the opening frame.
 
In the second half, it was much of the same for Kentucky State. KSU connected on 48 percent of their field goals in the second half, pushing their lead to as many as 30 points before coasting to the 80-54 conference victory.
 
All-SIAC guard/forward combo Shayla Moore led the way for Kentucky State offensively. Moore poured in a game-high 23 points after going 10-for-17 from the floor. Starting center Shaquanda Wiggins connected on 7-of-8 field goal attempts on her way to 15 points. Wiggins picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 11 boards as well. Ashley Huddleston added 10 points, four assists and a pair of steals. Guard Jessica Jones had a strong game off the bench, finishing with six points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
 
The Lady Lions had just three players score more than five points with forward Janisha Wilerson leading the way with 14. Guard Tannasia Rhodes scored 12 points to go along with a team-high four assists. As a team, PC was held to just 33 percent from the field.
 
The Thorobrettes now hit the road for a conference game against Benedict College on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Columbia, S.C. with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM.
