Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – After trailing by three at halftime the Kentucky State University Thorobreds used a 54-point offensive outburst in the second half to defeat the Clark Atlanta University Panthers, 92-77, in a SIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.

With the win, Kentucky State moves to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in SIAC action. Clark Atlanta falls to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in SIAC play.

Both teams came out of the gate with energy on Saturday. In a hotly contested opening half, the teams went back-and-forth, with both squads taking leads of seven or more. CAU closed out the half with a 12-3 run to propel themselves to a 41-38 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, Kentucky State came out of the locker room motivated. In the first six minutes of the final frame the Thorobreds went on an 11-0 run to take the lead at 49-41. KSU wouldn't trail for the rest of the game.

The Thorobreds shot a season-high 60 percent (34-of-57) from the floor as a team on Saturday.

In addition to their hot shooting from the field, KSU also converted 74 percent of their free throws. In all three of the Thorobreds victories this season, the team has shot 74 percent or better from the charity stripe. In contrast, the team has shot 69 percent or worse from the line in all of its losses.

Guard
Malcolm Smith led the Thorobreds with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds. On the season, Smith is shooting 54 percent from the floor and a team-leading 44 percent from 3-point range.
Dorian Jordan picked up his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists off the bench for Kentucky State.
Ulysses Thomas III finished with and efficient 14 points after going 5-of-7 from the field. Forward
Darrien Wilkins was once again active on the boards, grabbing six rebounds to go along with 11 points. Forward
Tim Bates came off the bench to score 13 points, going 6-of-6 from the floor in just 14 minutes of play.

CAU had a trio of players, Damien Enoch, Kenneth Green and Derek Harper, lead the team with 14 points each. Najee Whitehead started the game strong, picking up 13 points in the first half, but was held scoreless in the second half.

The Thorobreds wrap-up their three-game home stand with a match-up against SIAC opponent Paine College on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM at the Exum Center.
