Box Score 2 FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Asbury University and Union College at this past weekend's KSU Tri-Match held at the Exum Center.

After the pair of non-conference losses the Thorobrettes fall to 12-7 overall and remain at 11-1 in SIAC play.

In the opening match of the round-robin tournament Kentucky State fell to the Asbury Eagles, 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23).

AU used a balanced offensive attack with six Eagles recording 5 or more kills. Asbury used the duo of Jessie Barlow and Lindsay Kurz to distribute the ball effectively, with the pair combining for 34 assists. The Eagles continued their strategy of spreading the work load around when it came to defense as well. AU had four student-athletes tally 10 or more digs against the Thorobrettes.

Kentucky State was led offensively by
Emily Grieshaber and
Latosha Scott who had 13 and 10 kills respectively.
Anjelique Kyle distributed the ball for the Thorobrettes, finishing with 32 assists.
Micah Rogers had a match-high 27 digs.

In their second match of the day, KSU dropped a 5-set thriller to Union College, 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 15-11).

After a disappointing loss to Asbury in the previous match, the Bulldogs came out of the gate slow and Kentucky State took advantage. The Thorobrettes won the first set 25-23 and looked to be in control early.

After UC bounced back to take the second set, 25-19, the teams went back-and-forth, splitting the third and fourth sets, to set up a fifth and deciding set.

A pair of attack errors from KSU gave Union an early 2-0 lead but with neither team conceding, the teams found themselves locked at 10-10 in the first to 15 points set.

From there, Union got three big kills from Marissa Elam and a pair of blocking errors from KSU to help the Bulldogs escape with the set and the match.

Elam finished with a team-high 20 kills. The Thorobrettes were led by Grieshaber and
Kirtrice Ploucha who finished with 17 and 11 kills respectively.

Next up for Kentucky State is a road trip to Nashville, Tenn. for a matchup with Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. (CT).
