Thorobrettes Fall to Tuskegee, 54-51

Box Score TUSKEGEE, Ala. -- The Kentucky State University women's basketball team fell to the Tuskegee Tigerettes, 54-51, in a conference game on Thursday evening at the James Center Arena.

The Thorobrettes, who were coming off a win against Lane College on Saturday, drop to 11-14 overall and 6-9 in SIAC action.

Tuskegee moves to 15-8 overall and 11-3 in the SIAC, continuing to hold onto their lead as the top team in the SIAC West Division standings.

The Thorobrettes were led by forward Brieona Warner who had a team-high 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Style Harper contributed with eight rebounds, but struggled to get going offensively finishing with just six points.  Shayla Moore contributed with seven rebounds but struggled to find a shooting rhythm, finishing with six points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor.

Kentucky State tried to keep things close in the first half trailing by only seven at the intermission, 28-21. Unfortunately, the Thorobrettes were never able to close the gap as Tuskegee never surrendered the lead in the second half on their way to the 54-51 win.

Kentucky State was able to keep the TU offense in check as the Tigerettes connected on just 27% of their shots from the floor. That's the second lowest percentage by a KSU opponent this season.

While Tuskegee struggled from the floor, they were able to get to the free-throw line consistently. TU hit 67% (14-of-21) of its attempts from the free-throw line while Kentucky State shot just 47% (8-of-17).

Tuskegee was led by forward Marie McAbee who scored a team-high 16 points. Kajuanna Rivers added 13 points and Chelsea Azore contributed with 10 points.

Next up for Kentucky State is a match-up with Stillman College on Saturday, Feb. 22nd, in Tuscaloosa, AL. The teams met in Frankfort earlier this season when the Thorobreds topped the Lady Tigers 81-69.
