Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team defeated the Lane College Dragons, 84-70, in a conference battle on Saturday afternoon at the JF Lane Gym.
The Thorobreds (13-10, 10-5 SIAC) have now won nine out of their last 10 games.
Lane (3-18, 1-14 SIAC) kept things close in the first half, trailing by just three points heading into halftime.
KSU Head Coach Antwain Banks made some adjustments during the intermission and the Thorobreds came out strong in the second half. After shooting a respectable 44% from the floor in the first half the Thorobreds shot a blazing 68% from the floor as a team in the second half. KSU outscored Lane by 11 points in the second half on their way to the 84-70 victory.
The leading scorer for the Thorobreds was Darrien Wilkins who finished the game with his fourth double-double this season. Wilkins dropped in 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against the Dragons. Both Ulysses Thomas III and Tryston Ford finished with 11 points. Quentin Henderson finished with six points, two assists and four steals.
As a team, the Thorobreds shot a season-high 56% (35-of-63) from the floor on Saturday. KSU also shot a solid 38% (6-of-16) from 3-point range. Kentucky State held Lane to just 38% (25-of-66) from the floor and 11% (1-of-9) from beyond the arc.
Lane's Bryant Hill and Nolen Sha'Mar both had a game-high 18 points while also combining for 17 rebounds. The Dragons, who played just seven players, had two others score in double figures as well. Georgio Alexander and Tony Payne both finished with 14 points.
Not only have the Thorobreds caught fire at the right time but they are currently second in the SIAC West Division standing right on the heels of Tuskegee University.
Next up for Kentucky State is a match-up with the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University on Thursday, Feb. 20th, in Tuskegee, Alabama. The teams met in Frankfort earlier this season where the Thorobreds fell to Tuskegee, 82-72.
