Men’s Basketball Falls to Southern Indiana, 85-74

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky State men's basketball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana, 85-74, on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. The game against the Screaming Eagles marks the Thorobreds first of six straight games to be played on the road.
 
USI (3-0) got big performances from senior guard Gavin Schumann and junior forward George Edwards combined for 54 points on Saturday.
 
Schumann posted a game-high 33 points, going 11-for-14 from both the field and the free-throw line. Edwards finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
Kentucky State was paced offensively by Ulysses Thomas III who finished with a team-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor but didn't get to the free-throw line at all on Saturday. Guard Tryston Ford finished with 17 points and a pair of assists.
 
After falling behind early, Kentucky State (1-2) put together a 13-6 run to take the lead at, 26-25, with 7:26 left until halftime.
 
USI rode a 20-11 run in the final seven minutes of the half to a secure a 45-37 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.
 
The Screaming Eagles held their lead for the remainder of the game on their way to the 85-74 victory.
 
The rebounding discrepancy favored USI who outrebounded KSU, 39-22, on Saturday.
 
Kentucky State will try to regroup before they head up to Wilberforce, Ohio for a matchup against rival Central State on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
