FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky State University women's basketball team will begin their 2014-15 season as hosts of the C.Y. Russell Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22, at the Exum Center.
Four teams, including the Thorobrettes, Chowan University, Livingstone College and Bluefield State College, will play a total of four games during the 2-day tournament.
The tournament begins on Friday evening when Livingstone takes on Bluefield State at 6 p.m. At the conclusion of the opening game, Kentucky State will begin their season against Chowan. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The teams return on Saturday at 2 p.m. when Bluefield State matches up against Chowan. In the final game of the weekend, the Thorobrettes will host Livingstone College at 4 p.m.
Kentucky State, which returns six players from last year's team that went 12-15, was picked in the SIAC preseason poll to finish second in the SIAC West Division this season. The team will be led by senior All-SIAC student-athletes
Brieona Warner and
Shayla Moore. Warner led the team in both scoring and rebounding last season with 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Moore averaged 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
