EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky State University women's volleyball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana, 3-1 (25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11) Wednesday night at the Physical Activities Center.

The Screaming Eagles, who hit .268 as a team on Wednesday, jumped ahead by two sets to none to start the match. The Thorobrettes rallied to win the third set 25-23 by holding USI to an attacking percentage of just .029. The Screaming Eagles got back on track in the fourth set to come away with the set and the match.

The non-conference loss drops the Thorobrettes to 18-11 overall. USI, a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), improves to 9-6 this season.

Kentucky State struggled in the opening frame with USI hitting a scorching .400 on their way to a 14-point opening set victory.
The Screaming Eagles used a key 11-2 run in the midst of the second set to set themselves up for a 2-set advantage.

On their heels, Kentucky State showed a lot of grit to fight their way back and win the third set. Trailing the entire set and down 20-17, Kentucky State rattled off five straight points to go ahead 22-20. From there, KSU held on for the 25-23 set victory.

USI saw their effective attack game come back in the fourth set, hitting .346 as a team on their way to the set and match victory.

The Thorobrettes were led offensively by senior
Emily Grieshaber who had 15 kills but was the only KSU student-athlete to finish with more than eight kills. Sophomore
Anjelique Kyle was the facilitator for Kentucky State, finishing with 27 assists. Kyle and senior
Chandler Durkee both finished with 3 block assists.

Kentucky State heads back home for their next two matches starting with the University of Charleston on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. After that, KSU takes on the University of the Cumberland's on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. That contest also serves as the Thorobrettes annual "Dig Pink" match.
