FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team fell to the Fort Valley State Wildcats, 66-55, in an SIAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.
In their first home game of the spring semester, the Thorobreds came out of the gate fast. Kentucky State built up a 12 point lead when KSU guard Darquell Pulliam hit a 3-pointer to put Kentucky State ahead 16-4 with 13:34 left in the first half.
The Wildcats fought back, tying the game at 24-24 with under two minutes left in the half. The Thorobreds went into halftime holding on to a 31-25 lead.
In the second half, FVSU turned up the defensive pressure and Kentucky State struggled to knock down shots. KSU hit just 33% (10-30) of their shots in the second half including 0-for-10 from long range.
The Thorobreds never got into a consistent rhythm offensively. As a team KSU shot 35.4% from the floor over the course of the game on 23-of-65 shooting. The Thorobreds were ice cold from long range, connecting on just 1 of their 18 attempts from beyond the arc.
FVSU was led offensively by Joshuah Davis who finished the contest with a game high 21 points to go with his five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Wildcat forwards Nigel Domineck and Brandon Davey both finished with double-doubles. Domineck had 15 points and 11 rebounds while Davey finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Thorobreds had three players finish with a team high 13 points. One of those was starting Kentucky State point guard Quentin Henderson who gave the Thorobreds a gritty performance. Henderson, who is listed at 5'9 and 160 pounds grabbed a team high nine rebounds to go with his 13 points.
Kentucky State will have a chance to get back on track when they host Clark-Atlanta on January 6th. The game which was originally slated for 7:30 p.m. has been moved to 3:00 p.m. in order to avoid the weather that is forecasted for Monday evening.
