Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala. --Â Wendy Miller pulled down an offensive rebound and got up a quick lay-up as the overtime buzzer sounded to give the Miles College Lady Golden Bears a 79-77 victory over the visiting Kentucky State University Thorobrettes in an SIAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The victory moves Miles record to 8-10 overall and 2-6 in SIAC play. The Thorobrettes fall to 5-12 overall and 1-8 in SIAC action.
The Thorobrettes trailed by four points with just 15 seconds left in the second half but Brieona Warner scored the final four points of the game for KSU to send the game to overtime. Warner grabbed an offensive rebound a put up a quick layup with seven seconds left and then hit a pair of clutch free-throws with just seconds left in regulation to tie the game at, 69-69.
Kentucky State scored the first points of overtime after a Warner steal turned into a fast break layup for Style Harper to put the Thorobrettes ahead, 71-69.
During the extra period the two teams would go back and forth with lead changing sides a total of four times.
A Harper jumper with just under a minute left in overtime game the Thorobrettes a two point lead at 77-75.
Miles came right back down the floor and tied the game at 77-77 when Enria Samuals hit a jumper for the Lady Golden Bears.
After both teams missed shots in the final minute, the Thorobrettes called a 30 second timeout with just 14 seconds left in the contest.
A crucial turnover by KSU guard Labria Fulmore led to an MC jumper from Smirah Ali that bounced into the hands of Miller who put up the game winning layup.
There was a huge discrepancy is the free-throw shooting percentages between the two teams. KSU shot 82.1%, going 23-of-28 from the free-throw line. Miles shot just 50%, making 20-of-40 shots from the free-throw line.
Warner had easily her best game of the season against Miles. She finished with a season-high 25 points while also adding 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Harper finished with 14 points, going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Teeuntra Moore added 11 points and Shayla Moore contributed with 10 points.
Enria led the way for Miles with 15 points. Alease Allen had 13 points and 11 rebounds for MC.
Next up for the Thorobrettes is a trip to Memphis, TN to face the LeMoyne-Owen Lady Magicians on Monday Jan. 27th at 1:00 p.m.
