Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team defeated SIAC West Division opponent Stillman College, 89-84, on Monday afternoon at the Exum Center.
The victory gives Kentucky State (5-9, 4-5 SIAC) a key victory over an SIAC West Division opponent that they look up to in the standings. Stillman (10-10, 5-4 SIAC) snaps a two-game SIAC win streak after victories over Claflin and an overtime win against Lane just before heading to Frankfort.
KSU jumped out to an early lead, taking a 10-2 advantage after senior Brandon Darrett converted a layup just under four minutes into the first half. Darrett led the Thorobreds with a season-high 23 points while also adding 12 rebounds on Monday. The performance gives Darrett six double-doubles this season.
Darrien Wilkins also had a big night for the Thorobreds, finishing the contest with 12 points and 11 rebounds, six of them coming on the offensive end.
Senior Earl Ruffin Jr. had another solid game off the bench. Ruffin Jr. contributed with an efficient 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor as well as a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Stillman was led by Markeith Madison who had a team-high 23 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Kentucky State has their fourth straight home game this Thursday when the Thorobreds host the Trevecca Nazareth Trojans on Thursday, Jan. 23rd. The Trojans enter Thursday's game with a 5-12 overall record and coming off a 92-65 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan.
