ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes began their three game road trip with another SIAC loss after falling to the Claflin University Lady Panthers, 67-46, on Thursday evening at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.
Junior guard Shakiema Ravenell had a game-high 17 points for the Lady Panthers who move to 8-6 overall and 4-0 in SIAC play.
The Thorobrettes (4-8, 0-4 SIAC) were held in check offensively with no player reaching double digit points in Thursday's contest. Juniors Teeuntra Moore and Brieona Warner finished with a team-high nine points each.
Turnovers played a big role in Thursday's outcome. The Lady Panthers hounded KSU all night long, forcing the Thorobrettes into a season high 37 turnovers. CU turned those turnovers into points, racking up 30 points off turnovers.
Both team's shot poorly from the floor, with neither team topping 35% as a unit. Claflin was at least effective from long distance, connecting on 4-of-10 shots as a team while Kentucky State hit just 1-of-8 from 3-point range.
Kentucky State will look to pick up their first conference win this Saturday against the Benedict College Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers sit atop the SIAC East Division rankings with a 10-4 overall record and 4-0 record in SIAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
