MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Kentucky State University men's and women's basketball teams are in Memphis, Tenn. as they prepare for a doubleheader against LeMoyne-Owen College on Thursday Feb. 7th. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's matchup following at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams have been on hiatus since their games against Lane College on December 31st. Their scheduled road trip to play back-to-back games against Central State and Wilberforce University was cancelled due to inclement weather. Those games will be rescheduled at a later date.
The women's team enters Thursday's contest riding a three game winning streak. The Thorobrettes have already defeated LeMoyne-Owen once this year when the teams played on Jan. 28th. KSU came away with a lopsided 91-51 victory against the Lady Magicians in Frankfort, Ky.
In that victory Kentucky State had six players score in double figures. The Thorobrettes shot 52.9% (9-17) from beyond the arc in that game, 43% (34-79) overall, while holding LeMoyne-Owen to just 15.4% (2-13) from three-point range, and 36.8% (21-57) overall. Kentucky State also had a distinct advantage on the glass pulling down 57 total rebounds, 26 offensive, to LeMoyne-Owen's total of 32, seven offensive.
The Kentucky State women will look to move to two games over .500 in the conference with the win on Thursday night. They currently stand at 6-5 in SIAC action and 9-9 overall. LeMoyne-Owen is still looking for their first conference win with a record of 0-10 in conference play, 2-19 overall.
On the men's side, Kentucky State enters Thursday's game riding a three game win streak as well. The Thorobreds are looking to stay within striking distance of first place in the SIAC West. With a record of 9-9 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC, Kentucky State is looking up at Stillman College and Tuskegee University who both have a conference record of 9-3. LeMoyne-Owen enters Thursday's contest in fourth place in the SIAC West with a conference record of 4-8, and 6-15 overall.
The Kentucky State men's team played LeMoyne-Owen on Jan. 28th, coming away with a 78-67 victory at home. Four Thorobreds scored in double figures, paced by Patrick Dawson who finished with 14 points. Kentucky State was able to hold the Magicians to just 36.1% (22-61) from the field while shooting 49.1% (26-53) themselves.
