Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore forward Shayla Moore's double-double led the Kentucky State University women's basketball team to a 68-53 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Thursday at Bruce/Johnson Hall.

The victory pushes the Thorobrettes win streak to four games and improves their overall record to 10-9 and 7-5 in SIAC action. This is the second time that KSU has beaten the Lady Magicians this season. In their first meeting the Thorobrettes came away with a 91-51 victory at home. After the loss LeMoyne-Owen falls to 2-20 overall, 0-12 in conference play.

Moore led the way for Kentucky State finishing with 25 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and four steals. Sharnita Lloyd contributed with 13 points of her own along with six rebounds and three steals. Style Harper led the team in assists finishing with six and also putting up nine points.

Kentucky State was able to use its length and athleticism to force LeMoyne-Owen into 18 turnovers. The Thorobrettes also won the rebound battle, pulling down 45 total rebounds to the Lady Magicians 33. However they could not find an answer for LeMoyne-Owen center Nicole Swick who finished the game with an impressive 14 points and 20 rebounds.

Unfortunately for the Lady Magicians no other player was able to haul in more than four rebounds and their limited rotation left them with depleted in the second half. LeMoyne-Owen had just six players contribute quality minutes. Guards Laurien Williamson and Ashley Attaway both scored 13 points respectively.

Kentucky State continues its road trip with a men's and women's doubleheader against Miles College in Birmingham, Ala. this Saturday afternoon.
