Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team fell to #11 University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles, 92-69, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.
USI center Aaron Nelson, who is every bit of the 6'8, 249 pounds that the Southern Indiana roster lists him as, had 11 points and 15 rebounds against KSU in the first half. Nelson was far from finished though, racking up an astounding 31 points and a USI single game record 27 rebounds against the Thorobreds.
The Thorobreds jumped out to a 7-3 lead early in the game but were not able to sustain the advantage and once USI took the lead at the 14:02 mark of the first half, they never looked back.
The Screaming Eagles used a seemingly endless bench to swap in fresh bodies early and often during the game. Southern Indiana had 11 players log significant minutes during the contest.
Junior
Ulysses Thomas III led the way offensively for the Thorobreds finishing with 19 points and six rebounds. Thomas III also had five of Kentucky State's 14 turnovers in the game.
Junior transfer
Darrien Wilkins was efficient for KSU, finishing the game with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, seven rebounds, a block and a steal.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles shot a blazing 54.5% from the floor in the first half. USI finished the game an even 50% from the floor (35-of-70) compared to 41.8% (28-67) for the Thorobreds.
Thanks in large part to Nelson's effort the Screaming Eagles had a 51-28 rebounding advantage over KSU.
Kentucky State will take a break before getting back on the floor against Albany State on January 2
nd in Albany, Ga. The contest will be the Thorobreds first SIAC game of the season and is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
