Box Score 2 Tuscaloosa, Ala. (April 15, 2012) – Going into today's game the Thorobrettes had a lot to prove. After going 1-1 against the Stillman Lady Tigers yesterday, the Brettes were focused on clinching the SIAC West, which required them to dominate the doubleheader. Stillman on the other hand only needed to win one game to clinch the SIAC West.
In the first game, the Brettes put the first run on the board when Rikki Martinez singled and scored on Palaura Parker's double to right center.
After not seeing a score change for two innings, the Lady Tigers were able to put two runs on the board as Bailey Braughton's double brought in Arnishkla Nelson and Januar Page.
Neither team would score again until the 5
th inning when Gabrielle Quarles drew a walk with bases loaded to score Page.
The Brettes continued to fight back offensively in the sixth, as a sacrifice out by
Danielle Garay brought Candace Stallworth home (2-3).
The Lady Tigers added to their lead in the sixth by scoring two runs, and putting the pressure on the Brettes to pull the game out in the top of the seventh.
Lorena Villamar was able to bring Martinez on a base hit to right field (3-5). Unfortunately, the Brettes were unable to continue their offensive momentum, and fell to the Lady Tigers 5-3.
In the second game, the Brettes were once again the first scoring team in the top of the second when Stallworth scored on a passed ball.
Stillman answered quickly in the third by putting up three runs, but the Brettes were still determined to come out with a win. The Brettes scored another run in the top of the third when
Shenaaz Burrell doubled to left center allowing Brittany Flores to score (2-3).
The Lady Tigers continued their control at bat by score another three runs in the bottom of the fourth (6-2).
Yet, the Brettes continued to strive for a win by bringing in two more runs in the top of the fifth. Villamar brought in Flores and Martinez when she hit a single up the middle (4-6).
Defensively, the Brettes stayed strong for the rest of the game, and were able to execute a chance to take the game in the top of the seventh. Stallworth brought in Burrell with a double to left field (5-6). Yet, the Brettes fell to the Lady Tigers with a score of 5-6.
Kentucky State's record is 26-16 and 18-6 in the SIAC, and Stillman's record is 32-13, and 23-3 in the SIAC.
The Thorobrettes will head to the 2012 SIAC Tournament, which is scheduled for April 19-21 at the Gerald Mathews Sports Complex in Hampton, Ga.
