Box Score Frankfort, Ky. (February 7, 2012)— In a defensive, guard-oriented battle, the KSU Thorobreds pulled out a hard fought victory against the Lane College Dragons.

The Lane College Dragons put the first points on the board, but KSU's Brandon Darrett matched them with a score.
The game started at a fast pace with both teams matching each other with points and looking to fast break every open opportunity.

Both teams started turning up the defense and forcing turnovers. The Thorobreds' Jabari Wright excited the crowd off the bench with a fast-break lay-up created by a steal by Austin Rich leading to an assist to Wright. The Breds were not done there, as Rich scored off a superb drive to the basket.

The Dragons fought back lead by Nick Jones who knocked down a three-point shot making the score 24-20 in favor of the Breds with nine minutes to play in the first half.

Rich continued his scoring outburst with a killer crossover leading to a knock down deep jumper.  The Thorobreds continued their great team defense by forcing 11 first half turnovers and holding the Dragons to 27 points.

Soon after, the Breds forced another stop leading to William Marsh scoring with a lay-up giving KSU their biggest lead 47-36 with 14 minutes to play.

The Dragons tried to make a comeback led by Ashton Patton who knocked down consecutive 3-point shots to bring the game under double digits with 10 minutes to play.

The Thorobreds however, kept their distance for most of the half. The Breds were up 62-54 with 5 minutes to play. The Dragons would not go down without a fight. Anthony Collier kept the Dragons in striking distance.

The Breds took a blow when their leading rebounder Brandon Darrett fouled out with 2:30 to play in the game.  Less than 1 minute later Kevin Smith fouled out leaving the Breds without one of their season leading scorers.

The Dragons had their chance to make a run back in the game but key missed free-throws  hurt their cause.
