Box Score FRANKFORT, KY (FEBRUARY 23, 2012) – On their last home game of the season, the Kentucky State University Thorobrettes took on the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers. The Thorobrettes ended their season with a loss. The final score 64-71.
All five seniors took center court for tip-off in honor of Senior Night. The Lady Panthers put the first points on the board for either team. Senior,
Raven Ward made her presence felt as she scored the first four points for the Brettes. Ward would be an offensive force throughout the first half of the game scoring 16 of the Brettes 32 points in the first half.
Personal fouls from the Lady Panthers sent the Brettes to the free throw line on numerous occasions, allowing three other Brettes to put points on the board. The game remained tight for the entire first half of gameplay with the largest lead for either team being five points. With the Brettes down by two with :49 left in the half,
Ashley Thompson-Baker sunk a three. The half ended with the Brettes up one point on the Lady Panthers.
The Brettes come out of the locker room scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half. This allowed the Lady Panthers to gain a lead that they never gave up. Good jumpers by
Brielle Newton and Joanna Powell kept the Brettes in the game and Thompson-Baker sunk another shot from beyond the arc. The Brettes were unable to score another field goal for four minutes.
A jumper from Ward at 8:02 gave the Brettes a little momentum. By the 5 minute mark the Brettes trailed by just three. Ward continued to act as the offensive dominating force with the next seven points coming from her. Asia Dubose and
Sharnita Lloyd assisted Ward in putting points up for KSU. Despite passionate play, the Brettes were unable to overcome their deficit, leaving the final score at 64-71.
The leading scorer for the game was
Raven Ward. On senior night, Ward grabbed her season high of 29 points. Ward also had 5 assists and a block.
This loss leaves the Thorobrettes at 9-17 (8-14 SIAC) for the season. The Brettes will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the 2012 SIAC tournament on February 28, 2012.
