Box Score Frankfort, Ky. (January 24, 2012)– After three consecutive losses the Kentucky State Thorobreds were searching for a win as they faced the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers tonight. The Breds were received by an enthused crowd in a packed Exum Center.

Kevin Smith started the game offensively for the Breds by putting up their first points (2-2). Slowly, the Tigers crept away with the lead by going on a ten point run, but the Breds remained determined to come away with a win. A layup from William Marsh brought the Breds within three with 10:29 left in the first half, but the Tigers seemed to be holding on to their lead with everything they had (12-15).

A technical foul on the Tigers' Joshua Eichelberger with 6:00 left in the first half proved to be a catalyst for the Breds (19-26). Smith was able to bring the Breds within two at the end of the first half by making back-to-back free throws (32-34) and the Breds walked to the locker room with the momentum of this game on their side.

The second half started off shaky as the Tigers stepped back on the court scoring the first shot of the half, and the Breds had to fight through the Tigers' lead. Troy Adams was able to put the Breds within one with a short jumper (42-43). Brandon Darrett put up his second double-double of the season, 11 points and 11 rebounds, with 13:23 left in the second half by grabbing a rebound.

Smith tied the game at 47 by making a jump shot with eleven minutes left in the half and with just under two minutes to play, Darrett tied a career high 16 rebounds. Unfortunately, the Breds were unable to gain an offensive upper hand, and the Tigers gradually slipped away with the lead. They took the win by five points with an final score of 65-60.

Adams led the Breds in scoring with 18 points, and Darrett was not far behind with 17 points and leading in rebounds with 16.

Next up for the Thorobreds is a conference battle against Stillman on Thursday at home at 7:30 p.m.
