Frankfort, KY (September 9, 2011) – Kentucky State University has embarked on a mission of giving back to the community in unique way. Beginning with its first home football game, KSU's Department of Athletics has decided to dedicate the 2011 season to active duty military by allowing them into each home game free of charge with their military identification.
Dedicating the 2011 football season to active duty military is an act of gratitude. According to KSU's Assistant Director of Athletics, Harry Stinson, “it is one of the ways to recognize the men and women who help give their lives for us on September 11, 2011.”
September 11, 2001 changed the lives of many Americans and others in the world. It was a moment of great tragedy followed by a surge of people committing to serving others. “KSU realizes that it is the ten year anniversary of this tragic event, and we want to honor those who sacrificed their lives, put themselves in danger to save others and those who continue to serve this country daily,” said Stinson.
There are thousands of military persons who put their lives on the line to protect us and our freedom. KSU recognizes the sacrifice of these men and women and believes dedicating the football season to them is not only an act of gratitude, but also of great respect.
The Department of Athletics hopes to generate fan support, enhance the department, and also increase support for our military.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is 5 p.m. at KSU's Alumni Stadium. For more information about the game or KSU Athletics, visit www.ksuthorobreds.com or contact the Department of Athletics at 502-597-6011.
