FRANKFORT, KY (October 31, 2011) — Kentucky State University will honor the hard work and dedication of 16 senior athletes on November 5. The day will be full of celebration as the university is poised to host its final football and volleyball games of the season. The Thorobreds will play their final home game of the season at Alumni Stadium against Morehouse College at 1 p.m. while the Thorobrettes will host their final home game at the William Exum Center later that evening at 7 p.m.
The 2011 football team is proved they are worthy of recognition, both national and local. Not only did they succeed in obtaining a winning record, but they went above the expectations of many in their journey throughout this season. On October 7, the Thorobreds won their first homecoming game since 2007 with an exciting 25-24 win over Fort Valley State University. This past Saturday the Thorobreds proved their doubters wrong with their first win against Tuskegee University in 14 years.
Along with their team accomplishments, there were many individual senior triumphs this season. Quarterback
Jerrel Noland was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week after opening night against Lincoln University.
Raphael Amey received HSRN National Player of the Week after his performance at the Circle City Classic. With all of these accomplishments under their belt, the 13 senior Thorobreds will suit up to take the field in their final game at Alumni Stadium.
After honoring the football team, Kentucky State fans are invited to head to the William Exum Center to regard our Thorobrettes in their final home game of the season at 7 p.m. The Thorobrettes will be thanking their 3 seniors for their amazing dedication to their team. All 3 seniors were members of last year's SIAC Conference Champion Thorobrettes, and will lead this year's team into the SIAC Conference Tournament hosted by Albany State University on November 7-9 with high expectations of bringing back another ring.
Senior Day 2011 has been dubbed “The Victory Lap” in celebration of the things both of these teams have accomplished. They paved a new path for Kentucky State Athletics, and for that they deserve their victory lap.
