FRANKFORT, KY (October 19, 2011) – The month of October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) and the Kentucky State University Volleyball team wants to show support. The Thorobrette's will host their annual Dig Pink Match on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 against Midway College at 7 p.m. in the Exum Center.

Dig Pink is a Breast Cancer Awareness rally that is organized by the Side-Out Foundation with the sole purpose of furthering breast cancer awareness through Volleyball. This rally takes place throughout High School and College gyms around the nation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Volleyball fans are encouraged to join the movement and wear pink to the match.

“We all know someone who is a breast cancer survivor or someone who has lost a loved one to the disease,” said Kyetta May, KSU's Head Volleyball Coach. “The Dig Pink Match to show support. We encourage students, faculty, staff and community members to come to the match and join us in the fight against breast cancer.”

The goal for this project is to raise funds to go towards research and “living with cancer” organizations. Fans are encouraged to donate via the Thorobrettes' Dig Pink team website, http://www.side-out.org/application/ous/fundraising_page/2448, to help them reach their goal of raising $500.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is celebrating 27 years of awareness, education and empowerment. NBCAM educates women about the importance of early detection. An increasingly amount of women are getting mammograms to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. As a result, breast cancer deaths are on the decline. Please encourage the women in your life to get mammograms on a regular basis.
