Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala. (October 15, 2011) -- Kentucky State University played its second division game tonight against Miles College. The Golden Bears were hoping to give their seniors a golden goodbye on their senior night, and the Thorobreds entered the game hungry for yet another win after a heart-stopping win last week.
After an up and down battle Miles was able to sneak a touchdown past the Thorobreds. The quarter ended with the Thorobreds attempting to make their way back up the field, but the Breds were forced to punt to start the second quarter.
The Thorobreds fought back in the second quarter. Noland's pass to Amey early in the period put the Thorobreds in the end zone for their first touchdown of the game (PAT good). After a fumble recovery the Thorobreds had another chance to reach the end zone. Short of a touchdown, the Breds settled for a field goal by
Cade Berryman, making the score 10-7. Miles answered with a field goal late in the period, sending the teams to the locker room tied 10-10.
The game remained tied until 4:40 left in the third quarter, when Miles scored on a 6-yard run by David Thomas, putting the Golden Bears ahead 17-10. The Thorobreds answered that touchdown shortly after, tying the score at 17 on a 22-yard pass from Noland to Amey. Miles took the lead a 24-17 lead with 35 seconds to play in the third quarter on a 59-yard touchdown pass from Thomas to Vondragu Hudson.
Going into the fourth quarter the Thorobreds had only one goal, to score. Early in the fourth Miles was able to score another touchdown making the score 31-17. On a 4
th and 8 the Thorobreds were able to get into the red zone but came out of the possession scoreless.
Miles scored another touchdown with 5:19 left in the fourth quarter after Noland's pass was intercepted by Tyrrell Kinder and returned 66 yards. Less than two minutes later, Noland's pass to was intercepted again, this time by Keith Richburg for a 98-yard touchdown return, making the score 45-17, Miles. With just 54 seconds remaining in regulation, Noland completed a 3-yard pass to
Jovan Washington for a Thorobred touchdown.
Plagued by turnovers, the Breds fell to the Golden Bears 24-45. Miles' record is now 4-3 (3-1 SIAC). The Thorobreds' are also 4-3 (1-3 SIAC), and will play at home next week against Tuskegee University at 1 p.m.
Noland finished the game completing 29-of-54 passes with three touchdowns interceptions for 322 yards. Amey had a game-high 117 yards on 9 catches, while
Justin Williams led KSU with 83 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Defensively, KSU's
Terry Horton had a game-high 11 tackles (7 assisted, 4 solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Kenny Townsend and JacQuan Persley each had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, while Townsend clocked a game-high three tackles for loss (12 yards).
