FRANKFORT, Ky. – Playing before more than 2,000 fans at the Frankfort Convention Center, the Kentucky State men's basketball team defeated rival Central State 92-80. The Thorobreds (10-3) placed four players in double figures, led by
Tony Johnson (Louisville, KY) with 26 points.
K-State shot 50 percent in the first half, jumping out to a 42-23 halftime lead, while the Marauders shot just 37.5 percent.
CSU made a run in the second half, shooting 60 percent and outscoring the Thorobreds by seven points, but couldn't come all the way back.
Kevin Smith (Detroit, MI) finished with 18 points for the Breds, followed by
William Marsh (Detroit, MI.) with 17 points,
Alex Somerville (Indianapolis, IN) with 12 and
Patrick Dawson (Cincinnati,OH) with eight points.
Marsh had a game-high seven assists, and teammate
Austin Rich (Louisville, KY) had six assists as the Thorobreds had 22 assists on their 29 field goals.
Johnson and Somerville both had nine rebounds as KSU held a 38-29 advantage on the boards.
Greg Rice scored 27 points to lead the Marauders (9-9), and Lee Tabb had 15 points.
