In their season and home opener, the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State defeated the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State 62-51.

Kiera Nelson led the 'Brettes with a game-high 21 points, shooting 7-13 from the field and 7-9 from the charity strip. She also had six rebounds and three steals. Defending NCAA Shot Blocking Champ, Kiarra Morgan, led the Thorobrettes with 7 rebounds, four steals and a game-high 6 blocks, while Cortney Matthewis had 19 points (7-12 FG, 5-6 FT), three rebounds and four steals.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Avery Hale with 14 points, while Cierra Jones added 13 points. Janelle Williams led all rebounders with a game-high 12 rebounds, while Chelsey Davis grabbed 11 boards (8 defensive).

KSU sits at 1-0 on the season with conference play beginning Tuesday, November 23 in an away game against Claflin University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
