Ray Q. Valentine begins his first season as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the Thorobreds. His responsibilities include player development, creation of scouting reports and reviewing team academic progress.
A native of Vine Grove, Ky., Valentine has spent 12 years coaching in the Amateur Athletic Union circuit. From 2009 through this year, his teams have won 15 Tournament Championships, including three different State Championships (2009 with 16 and under; 2010 with 17 and under; 2011 with 17 and under).
Prior to his involvement with AAU, Valentine served as the assistant coach at Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, Ky. (2008-2009) and two years at Western High School in Louisville, Ky. (2001-2003). In his role as assistant coach at both schools, Valentine was responsible for player development and daily operations of the programs.
Valentine’s winning has landed him coaching positions at several institutions, including Bellarmine University, Georgetown College (Ky.), Murray State University, Tennessee Tech University and Western Kentucky University.
He attended Sullivan University, where he played guard from 1989-1990, and then moved on to Elizabethtown Community College. In his spare time, Valentine enjoys watching and play both basketball and golf.
Valentine is married to Celina Valentine. The two reside in Simpsonville, Ky. with their daughter Jasmine.
