Dwight Richardson recently finished his first season as assistant baseball coach for the Thorobreds.

Richardson, a graduate of Kentucky State University, played infield for the Thorobreds from 2003-2006. During his time as a student at KSU, he served as team manager for men’s basketball (2006-07) and student assistant for men’s basketball (2007-08). For the 2008-09 season, Richardson was promoted to assistant coach and then director of basketball operations for the 2009-10 season.

In 2009, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in physical education (non-teaching) with a minor in coach and is currently working to receive his teacher’s certification from KSU. Richardson is a member of the Kentucky Education Association (KEA), the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and the Kentucky Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD).

For Richardson, coaching is a means of giving back and helping young men mature into productive citizens and positive role models. “It’s important to coach these young men in every aspect of life,” stated Richardson. “KSU baseball is about more than wins and losses; it’s about developing our student-athletes into well-rounded individuals.”

Richardson has three children, Dwight Jr., Jariah and Daeshawn, and resides in Frankfort, KY with his fiancé Jamie.
