The Thorobred Fund includes gifts made by Kentucky State University fans, alumni, friends, and businesses. The financial investment of KSU Annual Fund members helps position our teams to successfully compete in the SIAC and on the national stage.

Your gift to the Thorobred Fund supports athletics scholarships, the academic experience of student-athletes, and sport-specific operational budgets. These donations, along with endowment distributions, fund athletic scholarships as well. The growth of the Annual Fund is critical to funding scholarships in the future.

Unrestricted: Unrestricted gifts donated to the Thorobred Fund will be used where they are most needed and include scholarship and academic support.

Friends Of: Donors wishing to support a specific sport have the option to allocate their gift to that program. This is a critical component in meeting the operational budget needs as well as scholarship costs for specific sports within the athletics department.

Annual operational budget support for each of the University's 14 sports is provided through a combination of athletics department funds and donor contributions.  This includes but is not limited to recruiting costs, team travel, and equipment. The support of KSU Annual Fund donors directly impacts the University's sports teams each year by relieving pressure on the annual budget and allowing the department to acquire what coaches feel is necessary to compete for an SIAC and NCAA championship.

For example, operational support allows teams such as softball, in colder weather months, the opportunity to travel to southern states for outdoor competition. Recently KSU's Men's and Women's locker rooms were aesthetically transformed, instilling a strong sense of pride in KSU basketball players. In Men's Basketball Coach Jamaal Jackson's words, "We are standing on the shoulders of some great student-athletes who came before us, and I think the continual improvement of our facilities will assist us in recruiting and signing players that will continue on that road to excellence.
