CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — Jaazaniah Calvert recorded a team-high six kills while hitting .278, but Kentucky State women's volleyball fell to host Thomas More in straight sets Friday evening at the Connor Convocation Center.
The Saints (4-3) defeated the Thorobreds (1-7) by set scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-10.
Kentucky State produced its strongest performance in the opening set. After falling behind 15-7, the Thorobreds used a 6-2 run—highlighted by two kills from Ananiah Huguely and a service ace from Laila Wheaton—to pull within 17-13.
Kentucky State mounted another late push with the Saints leading 22-16. A kill from Jasmine Henderson and an ace by Sienna Stewart helped the Thorobreds cut the deficit to 23-20 before Thomas More secured the final two points.
The Saints established an early advantage in the second set and used seven service aces to earn a 25-11 victory. Kentucky State showed strength at the net during the frame, registering four of its five team blocks.
The Thorobreds briefly led 2-1 in the third set following a Wheaton kill. Thomas More answered with a 6-1 run and later pulled away behind a .517 hitting percentage to close the match.
Calvert committed just one attacking error across 18 attempts to accompany her six kills. Huguely and Henderson added three kills apiece.
Jayla Collins led Kentucky State at the net with two solo blocks and one block assist. Zora Nooks collected a team-high seven digs, while Stewart distributed nine assists and added one service ace.
Kentucky State finished with five total blocks, one more than Thomas More. The Thorobreds also recorded three service aces.
