ATLANTA –
Jeramiah Israel and
Kur Maler combined for a strong interior performance, but the Kentucky State University men's basketball team fell to Clark Atlanta, 72-55, on Saturday in Atlanta.
Israel led all scorers, going 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe to finish with 21 points. He also recorded eight rebounds. His teammate Maler notched a season-high five blocks to lead the contest while adding eight rebounds of his own.
Gregory Melvin matched them on the glass, securing eight rebounds to go along with five points.
Clark Atlanta was led by Peyton Weathersby with 18 points. His teammate, Kharye Cayne, dominated the interior with a game-high 16 rebounds and 11 blocks.
The Panthers established an early rhythm, utilizing eight three-pointers in the opening half to jump out to a 41-21 lead at the break. Kentucky State struggled to find its range from beyond the arch during the initial 20 minutes of play.
Kentucky State responded with a resilient second-half effort. The Thorobreds found their offensive flow, sparked by a late 11-point run that allowed them to outscore the Panthers 34-31 in the final frame. However, the first-half deficit proved too significant to overcome as Clark Atlanta secured the 72-55 victory.
