SAVANNAH, Ga. — The 2025-26 season came to an end for Kentucky State men's basketball with a hard-fought 81-79 loss to Savannah State in the first round of the 2026 SIAC Men's Basketball Championship.
Aziel Blackwell led Kentucky State with 28 points and eight rebounds, while
Keon Henderson added 16 points.
Kur Maler anchored the defense with seven blocks, along with 10 rebounds and nine points.
Utilizing its depth, Savannah State's bench outscored Kentucky State 48-9, an effort led by 31 points from Zyere Edwards.
The Thorobreds controlled the tempo in the first half, taking a 42-36 lead into halftime.
With just 38 seconds remaining in regulation, Savannah State tied the game at 79-79. After a missed opportunity by the Thorobreds, the Tigers scored the game-winning basket for an 81-79 lead with six seconds remaining. In the following possession, the Thorobreds missed the game-winning 3-pointer, allowing the Tigers to maintain their lead at the end of regulation.
