FRANKFORT, Ky. – A last-second putback proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon as Kentucky State men's basketball fell 70-69 to Tuskegee in a tightly contested SIAC matchup.
Kentucky State was efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 61.1 percent (11 of 18), led by four 3-pointers from
Gregory Melvin and three from
Aziel Blackwell. Both Melvin and Blackwell led the Thorobreds with 18 points each.
The Thorobreds also performed well at the charity stripe, shooting 73.7 percent (14 of 19), an effort led by four free throws from Melvin and three each from Blackwell, who went 3 of 3, and
Sean Paige, who went 2 of 3.
In the first half, the Thorobreds went on a nine-point run with 1:59 remaining and took a 32-23 lead on a pair of free throws from Melvin with 31 seconds left. Tuskegee closed the gap to 32-26 by halftime.
At the 6:18 mark of the second half, the Thorobreds took a 54-40 lead on a 3-pointer from
Kur Maler. The Golden Tigers answered with a 12-point run starting at the 2:59 mark to shift the momentum and secure a 70-69 win on a last-second, second-chance bucket.

The Thorobreds will remain at home and host SIAC foe Miles on Monday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. inside of the William Exum Center.
