COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gregory Melvin posted a double-double, but the Kentucky State men's basketball team fell 64-46 to Benedict College in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action Friday afternoon at HRC Arena.
 
The Thorobreds struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting 28.1 percent from the field, while the Tigers controlled the interior with a 36-18 advantage in paint points. Despite the shooting struggles, Kentucky State remained active defensively, tallying eight steals and forcing Benedict into 19 turnovers. However, the Tigers won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding the Thorobreds 42-33.
 
The first half was a defensive grind, with Kentucky State limiting Benedict to just one three-pointer. However, the Tigers managed to take a 25-16 lead into the intermission. In the second half, both offenses picked up the pace, but Benedict outscored the Thorobreds 39-30 to secure the victory.
 
LEADERS
For Kentucky State, Melvin served as the anchor, playing all 40 minutes and finishing with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while adding four steals. Jeramiah Israel also played the full 40 minutes, leading the team in scoring with 12 points. Sean Paige chipped in with 10 points and three boards, and Keon Henderson facilitated the offense with a team-high four assists.
 
Benedict featured a balanced attack led by Kameron Foman, who posted a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting. Caleb Hymon added 13 points, while Malachi Chavis and Cole White contributed 11 points each.
