COLUMBIA, S.C. – A second-quarter run helped Allen defeat Kentucky State women's basketball 74-68 on Thursday.
Nearly adding another double-double on the season,
Amina Seck led Kentucky State with 12 points and nine rebounds. Two more Thorobreds followed her lead, as both
Diara McBroom and
Amyah Adair-Mars tallied 10 points each in the contest.
The Thorobreds outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 45-29 and converted their 15 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points.
Kentucky State used an eight-point run at the 5:09 mark to edge Allen 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams battled in the second quarter, with the lead changing five times before Allen built a seven-point advantage near the midpoint of the period (4:29). The Yellow Jackets capitalized on seven turnovers by the Thorobreds to score 12 points, outscoring Kentucky State 21-13 in the quarter and taking a 37-30 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was low-scoring for both sides, with the Thorobreds edging the Yellow Jackets 14-13 to cut the deficit to 50-44 heading into the fourth.
Allen regained momentum in the fourth quarter, building a 17-point, 68-51 lead with 2:38 remaining in regulation. Although both teams scored 24 points in the final period, the Yellow Jackets held on to defeat the Thorobreds 74-68.

Due to the upcoming winter weather, the Thorobreds will now play Benedict, tomorrow Jan. 23 at noon in Columbia, South Carolina.
