Kentucky State Rallies Past Lane 80-77 Behind Strong Free-Throw Shooting

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State men's basketball overcame a first-half deficit, capitalizing at the free-throw line in the second half to defeat Lane 80-77.

The Thorobreds went 19-of-27 at the charity stripe on the night, including 10-of-13 in the second half. Both Keon Henderson (4-for-4) and Gregory Melvin (2-for-2) finished perfect at the line, while Aziel Blackwell went 4-for-6.

Terin Wofford led Kentucky State with 20 points, making seven shots from the field, including three 3-pointers. He also led defensively with five steals.
Blackwell added a double-double with 18 points, making six shots from the field and two 3-pointers. He grabbed nine defensive rebounds and one offensive board to total 10 rebounds on the night.

Henderson was the third Thorobred to score in double digits with 11 points.

The first half was a dogfight, with the score tied six times and the lead changing eight times. Neither team led by more than five points during the half. Although Kentucky State led for more than nine minutes in the first half, Lane used a late seven-point run to take a 39-36 lead into halftime.

At the 14:39 mark of the second half, Blackwell hit a 3-pointer to give the Thorobreds a 57-48 lead—their largest of the game. Lane tried to mount a late push with a 10-point run, but Kentucky State capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring nine points to hold off the Dragons
