ATLANTA – Kentucky State football looks to get back on track Saturday as the Thorobreds travel to Atlanta for a SIAC showdown with Morehouse, aiming to hand the Maroon Tigers their third straight loss to open the season.

Kentucky State and Morehouse will meet for the 33rd time Saturday, with the Maroon Tigers holding a 16-15-1 edge in the series. In their most recent matchup on Sept. 21, 2024, Morehouse rallied in the fourth quarter for a 31-28 victory.
 
About the Maroon Tigers
Morehouse has opened the season 0-2, dropping its opener 45-9 to Johnson C. Smith before a 38-10 setback against Division I Howard. The Maroon Tigers have struggled to contain the run, allowing 182.5 rushing yards per game, seven rushing touchdowns and 28 first downs on the ground.

Kentucky State fell to 1-2 with a 37-31 overtime loss to a Division I opponent. Quarterbacks Denim Johnson and Torrence Bardell each threw a touchdown pass, with Johnson leading the way by completing 15 of 24 attempts for 146 yards. Jon McCall shined in his home state, hauling in eight catches for 81 yards and a score. Defensively, Mataye Youman paced the Thorobreds with nine tackles, including five solo stops, while Roman Hernandez added eight tackles.
 
Darius Cyprian continues to pace the SIAC with 274 receiving yards, averaging 22.8 yards per catch and 91.3 yards per game. Teammate Jon McCall ranks 10th in the league with an average of 50.3 yards per game.
 
On defense, Lawrence McConnell sits 10th in the conference with 7.7 tackles per game, while Mataye Youman is close behind at 13th with a 7.0 average.
