Kentucky State Scores 16 in Game Two to Split Doubleheader with LeMoyne-Owen

FRANKFORT, Ky.   –  Kentucky State baseball secured a dominant 16-1 victory in game two, while LeMoyne-Owen claimed a 9-6 win in game one, resulting in a doubleheader split Saturday.

Finding their rhythm at the plate three Thorobreds recorded homeruns, Brady Wooldridge, Ashton Renfro, and Bakari Rush. While Gavyn Minyard, Cedric Poellnitz, Zion Lewis, and Wooldridge each recorded a double.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, a Magicians error brought Minyard in to score the first run to give the Thorobreds a 1-0 lead through two innings.

LeMoyne-Owen tied the game 1-1, at the top of the third before creating a 3-1 lead by scoring two runs in the fourth inning.

The Thorobreds came to within one of the 4-3 Magician lead as Wooldridge doubled into right field, bringing home Preston Jones. Wooldridge then scored on an error through five innings.

LeMoyne-Owen added four runs at the top of the sixth. At the bottom, the Thorobreds responded, as Kendall Garland and Minyard added two runs, closing on the 8-5 Magicians lead.

Lewis singled to center field batting in Wooldridge scoring the Thorobreds final run in the seventh inning. A sacrifice fly in the eighth inning solidified a 9-6 LeMoyne-Owen win.

Out of the game two starting gate, the Thorobreds struck first on a homerun into center field from Wooldridge to take an early 1-0 first-inning lead.

Kentucky State had a game-high of six runs in the second inning as Jones scored and Renfro was walked with the bases loaded. Followed by a double from Lewis that sent both Renfro and Wooldridge home. Poellnitz singled into center field bringing home Lewis as the sixth run came as Wooldridge grounded out and brought Rush home to give the Thorobreds a 7-0 lead.

The offensive onslaught continued for the Thorobreds with a three-run homerun from Renfro leading to a 10-0 lead through three innings.

Keeping their momentum Jones singled into left field to bring Minyard in, which was followed with another three-run homerun by rush and was closed out by a single from Renfro that brought home A.J. Jackson putting the Thorobreds ahead 15-0 after four innings.

LeMoyne-Owen scored their lone run in the fifth inning but Kentucky State answered with a single from Rush that brought home Poellnitz and solidified the 16-1 victory for the Thorobreds.
