FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State Baseball built a three-run lead through five innings, but Thomas More rallied late with seven runs in the final two frames to hand the Thorobreds a 12-7 defeat on Tuesday.
Thomas More struck early with two runs in the first inning, but Kentucky State responded as
Gavyn Minyard's RBI single drove in
Kendall Garland and
Ashton Renfro to even the score at 2-2 after one.
In the second inning, with the bases loaded,
Zion Lewis was hit by a pitch, bringing home
Cedric Poellnitz and giving the Thorobreds a 3-2 lead.
The Saints tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the third and took a 4-3 lead on another base hit. Minyard answered in the bottom half, launching a solo home run over the center-field fence to tie it at 4-4.
Preston Jones followed with an RBI single, scoring Poellnitz, and
Brady Wooldridge added a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Jones and putting Kentucky State ahead 6-4 through three innings.
In the fifth, Lewis ripped a deep shot to right field, scoring Wooldridge and extending the Thorobreds' lead to 7-4.
Thomas More chipped away with a run on an error in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Saints then tied the game with two runs in the eighth before erupting for five runs in the ninth to secure a 12-7 victory.

Kentucky State will travel to Jackson, Tennessee April 4-5 for conference with Lane beginning with a single game on Friday, April 4.
