Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Although a late push in game two, Kentucky State dropped both games of their doubleheader at Edward Waters Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Edward Waters scored six runs in the fifth inning to secure a 10-5 victory in the opener. In game two, Kentucky State took an early four-run lead in the first, but Edward Waters answered with six runs over in three innings to earn a 7-6.
 
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 5, EDWARD WATERS 10
In the first game Edward Waters turned nine hits into 10 runs with only two errors while Kentucky State scored five runs on seven hits but tallied seven errors.
 
After the first run begin scored by the Tigers in the first inning, at the top of the third inning the Thorobreds put four runs on the board. Parker White sent the first runs in as he doubled down the left field line to send Preston Jones home. Brad Dossett followed with ground out to second base, but A.J. Jackson was able to add one run. Gavyn Minyard hit a double into left field that sent White home and Cedric Poellnitz reached first on an error by the right fielder and Minyard scored the fourth and final run of the inning.
 
Edward Waters made their push with two runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth to give them a 9-5 lead through five innings.
 
The Thorobreds final run came as Poellnitz scored on a passed ball and one run by the Tigers in the eighth innings led to a 10-5 victory for the Tigers.
 
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 6, EDWARD WATERS 7
Kentucky State turned six hits into six runs and recorded four errors as Edward Waters tallied four hits while scoring seven runs with no errors.
 
The first run of game two came as Kevin Garland was walked with the bases loaded that sent Jackson home, this was followed with Andrew Smith being walked with the bases loaded that sent White home. Brady Wooldridge singled up the middle to bat in Minyard and was later advance to second as Garland was sent home on a balk.
 
Jackson singled with a bunt that allowed Wooldrige to add one run, but the Tigers would add two runs in the fourth to close on the 5-4 Kentucky State lead.
 
Three runs in the fifth inning put Edward Waters ahead 7-5 through five innings, Minyard doubled into right center and sent in White to score the final run in the Thorobreds 7-6 loss to Edward Waters.
 
UP NEXT
Kentucky State will close out the series at Edward Waters on Saturday, Feb. 22, first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
